World's best cheesecake at Porchetta

The best cheesecake in the world, from Pasticceria Papa in Haberfield, will be available at Gunnedah’s Annual Porchetta Day on Saturday, September 20.

The fresh ricotta cheesecake – with none of the cloying sweetness of American-style cakes yet all the flavour you would expect from Italy – is a revelation for lovers of desserts, cakes and savoury items. Finally, something that keeps everyone happy, including those on a diet.

Owner and founder of this popular Haberfield corner store, Salvatore Papa, migrated to Australia from Sicily, bearing a wealth of authentic Italian recipes.

His establishment is well-known among Sydney locals for its traditional Italian-style snacks, including
fresh bread, cakes, pastries, cheesy pizza, cannoli and homemade gelato. The shop is also renowned for its panzerotti and profiteroles.

But it is the fresh ricotta cheesecake that is the star of the show and has been dubbed by many as
the finest in the world.

In fact, the cheesecake has its own Facebook page set up by avid fans, hundreds of whom attest their devotion.

The Haberfield store stands amongst the bustling strip that is Ramsay Street. Since its inception the patisserie has continually attracted a variety of customers – the varied clientele standing as proof of its multicultural charm and universal appeal.

For over 20 years people have flocked religiously from all Sydney (including a small but loyal fan base
in Gunnedah) – to stock up on treats, crunchy biscotti for afternoon tea and the queen of cheesecakes.

Cheesecakes and other treats from Pasticceria Papa will be delivered to Gunnedah for Annual Porchetta Day from 10am on Saturday, September 20 at the Gunnedah Kennel Club grounds.
